Scholarships for international students, researchers and academic staff
The scholarship supports the participation of foreign students in summer and winter schools of the Estonian universities. Scholarships can be applied for the foreign bachelor’s, master’s and PhD students who, by the time of applying, have studied in their universities for at least one year (including former study levels).
2025 application period will be open from March 17th 2025 until April 16th (23:59, Estonian time). Please send your application form and required documents to rvo.dokumendid@harno.ee.
Scholarships for Summer and Winter Schools
The purpose of the scholarship is to support foreign students participation in short summer or winter school courses of Estonian language and culture courses organized by the Estonian institutions of higher education as well as in summer and winter schools related to the degree programmes taught in English.
The scholarship can be awarded to the BA, MA and PhD students who are enrolled to the higher education institution abroad at least one year by the time of application. The candidate should pre-register to the course for applying for the scholarship.
Estonian universities offer various international short summer and winter courses (1–4 weeks), language studies, IT, media, international relations, etc. Contact the programme coordinator directly if you find a suitable programme for you. In the application round of the 2025 summer school, you can also apply for a scholarship to cover the participation fee for online courses.
Grant for researchers and academic staff
Grants for researchers can be awarded to the researchers and academic staff of higher education institutions abroad for their activity at Estonian institutions of higher education. The person using the grant shall hold an academic position at her/his home institutions. For example, the following are considered academic positions: professor, associate professor, teacher, reader, research fellow, lecturer, assistant. PhD students can apply for the scholarship for students only. Under this program, grants for postdoctoral studies are not offered. The grant can be used for research, teaching, collaboration with colleagues etc.

Scholarship for degree and exchange study in Estonia
Scholarships can be applied by foreign students who wish to study at Estonian higher education institution in the 2025/2026 academic year as a degree or exchange student. At the master’s and doctoral level, studies are supported in all fields. At the first level of higher education (BA), scholarships can be applied for only in fields related to the Estonian language and culture. Applications will be accepted from students from countries whose citizenship is in one of the countries listed:

The application with all the required annexes shall be submitted electronically. Applications submission opens one month before the deadline.
The application form cannot be changed, and the form must be sent to the email aadress in word format. It is not necessary to sign it.
Please be aware that the scholarship program is highly competitive. Historically, only about 10% of applicants receive the scholarship each year. Therefore, it is worth considering other sources of funding for your studies and not relying solely on this scholarship competition.
